Controlled substances
Controlled substances are substances with a high potential for abuse or addiction. These substances are regulated by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Health Care Remotely DOES NOT prescribe or refill controlled substances. Examples of controlled substances include:
- Select pain medications including but not limited to:
- Dilaudid (hydromorphone)
- Fioricet (butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine)
- Methadone
- Morphine
- Percocet (oxycodone)
- Tramadol
- Tylenol #3 or #4
- Vicodin (hydrocodone/acetaminophen)
- Anxiety (e.g., Ativan [lorazepam], Halcion [triazolam], Klonopin [clonazepam], Restoril [temazepam], Valium [diazepam], Xanax [alprazolam], other benzodiazepines)
- Sleep (e.g., Ambien [zolpidem], Luminal [phenobarbital], Lunesta [eszopiclone])
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (e.g., Adderall [amphetamine], Concerta [methylphenidate], Focalin [dexmethylphenidate], Ritalin [methylphenidate], Strattera [atomoxetine] and Vyvanse [lisdexamfetamine])
- Some weight loss medications (e.g., methamphetamine, phentermine)
- Other medications (e.g., cough syrup with codeine, Suboxone [buprenorphine/naloxone], Lyrica [pregabalin], Soma [carisoprodol], cannabis or other marijuana products)
Other potentially addictive drugs
In addition to drugs controlled by the DEA, Health Care Remotely DOES NOT prescribe the following medications given their addictive potential:
- Muscle relaxers (e.g., baclofen, Flexeril [cyclobenzaprine], Robaxin [methocarbamol] and tizanidine)
- Clonidine
- Medical marijuana or marijuana derivatives
- Neurontin (gabapentin)
- Promethazine
- Sudafed (pseudoephedrine)
- Intravenous or intramuscular diphenhydramine
- Intravenous haldoperidol
Sex hormones
Health Care Remotely WILL prescribe oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy.
Health Care Remotely DOES NOT prescribe
- Clomid
- Testosterone
- Sex hormones to support changing one’s gender
Some medications for erectile dysfunction
Health Care Remotely DOES NOT prescribe penile self-injectable drugs or intra-urethral alprostadil.
Other medications
- Anti-arrhythmics (e.g., flecainide, procainamide, amiodarone): interested patients should see a cardiologist
- Antipsychotics (e.g., quetiapine, olanzapine): interested patients should see a psychiatrist
- Biologic medications (e.g., Humira [adalimumab], methotrexate): interested patients should see the relevant specialist
- Accutane: Health Care Remotely, LLC physicians are not enrolled in the iPLEDGE REMS program
- Lithium: interested patients should see a psychiatrist
- Vitamin B12 injections
- Vitamin D supplements
